FSC Spruce Pine Fir #2 (SPF #2)

Sterritt Lumber’s FSC studs range from from 1″ x 6“ all the way up to 2″ x 12″ in dimension. Sterritt Lumber’s FSC spruce pine fir #2 (SPF #2) grade dimensional studs are the popular choice for dozens of commercial and residential applications. The wood itself has a bright, clean appearance, ranging in color from white to pale yellow, with a smooth texture and a straight grain. FSC SPF #2 studs are kiln dried to a moisture content of 19% or less. Kiln drying inhibits natural staining of the wood, improves its dimensional stability, enhances its appearance, and increases its resistance to decay and attack by insects. This lumber has a high strength-to-weight ratio and is well known for its outstanding working properties. It takes and holds nails exceptionally well and is easily machined with hand and power tools. It has good gluing, painting and staining properties. One can certainly see why this lumber has become the wood of choice when attacking commercial and residential projects alike. This lumber is so versatile that it can even be used to make sharp and attractive outdoor furniture!

Some advantages to using SPF #2 lumber include:

* The peace of mind knowing that FSC guidelines were followed during harvesting

* Ideal for residential, commercial and industrial construction

* Inexpensive, cost effective

* Smaller, tighter knot size

* Slower growth species promotes tighter wood grain for better strength, value and dimensional stability

* Preferred species for its workability in construction applications; easy to work with

* Works well with a variety of glues, paints and stains, grips nails tightly

* Kiln drying ensures dimensional stability
